The much used freeware and cross-platform instant messaging service for smartphones, the app that probably every smartphone has now, crashed for around a dozen minutes which caused a havoc among many parts of the world.
The messaging app has blend-in in our daily lives and any average phone user spends around more than a fourth of the day’s time on this. So when something so important like this goes down? It’s devastating right? Right!
It was around 2pm IST when I texted my girlfriend and instead of a double tick, I saw a time clock stating the sending failure. This was surely not a featured block as I wasn’t expecting a new block feature like this, lol. What happened exactly? People couldn’t send or receive messages using the Facebook-owned app, apparently because of a server problem. Service appears now to be gradually being restored.
The app didn’t initially look broken, with chats and contacts able to load and show as usual. But once a user was into a chat, the app just showed a “connecting” message that never resolves itself, and so new messages couldn’t be sent or received.
