A report from AdAge 1 claims that the Google news will soon be going through some major changes. Which is not limited to the revamped new design we are talking about, and will be including YouTube videos and magazines to its list. Which means it will incorporate both YouTube and Google Play Newsstand into Google News. The brand new Google News will reportedly be powered by Google’s light weight AMP technology 2 and is expected to be launched at Google I/O 2018.
Google has apparently been talking to publishers about the design, and AdAge quotes one anonymous publishing executive as saying, “It’s a consolidation of all the ways you can interact with news on Google…There are a lot of Google services where you find news, and what they’re trying to do is bring it all under one brand.”
Recently we have seen a Google news update adding some great UI to the Google News cards in our Android phones. At the moment it is totally unclear, if Google is totally changing the Google news feed or tweaking the recent one to add space for YouTube videos and magazines. Only the future will tell.
Google Play Newsstand is currently an odd hybrid of magazine store and RSS reader. The report says that Google Play Newsstand is going to close as part of the the mentioned redesign. This is the second time we’ve heard of a “Google Play” brand getting renamed: Google Play Music is also expected to close when it merges with YouTube.
Let’s wait for few more days to know about the official news regarding the changes. Google I/O 2018 is not far away! We will be sharing more news about Google I/O 2018 on our website and social media channels. So, stay tuned with us.
