Reliance Jio today was forced to withdraw its Summer Surprise offer after telecom regulator Trai advised the teleco to do so. On 31st of March, Jio announced its JIO SUMMER SURPRISE offer under which all JIO PRIME members making their first recharge payment of Rs 303 (or higher) plans got 3 months complimentary services in addition to the benefits of their purchased plan.
“Today, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has advised Jio to withdraw the 3 months complimentary benefits of JIO SUMMER SURPRISE. Jio accepts this decision,” the operator said in a press release.
“Jio is in the process of fully complying with the regulator’s advice, and will be withdrawing the 3 months complimentary benefits of JIO SUMMER SURPRISE as soon as operationally feasible, over the next few days. However, all customers who have subscribed to JIO SUMMER SURPRISE offer prior to its discontinuation will remain eligible for the offer” the operator further added.
On March 31, in a surprise move, Reliance Jio which was expected to charge for its services from April 1, 2017 extended the deadline for buying Jio’s Rs 303 (and other) plans till April 15, 2017.
The new telecom player, a part of oil-to-logistics conglomerate Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) had on September 5, 2016 launched commercial telecom services under a three-month promotional Jio Welcome offer which in December extended as Jio Happy New Year offer till March 31.
