“Google Pixel 2 is coming to Life!”
Google launches its phones towards the end of the year, so we wouldn’t expect to see the new device from Google until around October 2017.We’ve already seen a great number of phones launch in 2017, but we believe there’s still a whole load of goodness to come with Pixel 2.
“Walleye” and “Taimen” are the codenames for the upcoming Pixel 2 series. There was another Pixel codenamed “Muskie”, which was dropped .Considering that , We are expecting two new potential Pixel handsets for 2017.
About Walleye(Pixel 2) and Taimen(Pixel XL 2 )…
However, the report from XDA suggests that the new Pixel XL 2 will have a 5.99-inch display, with only a 1440p resolution. We are expecting a 18:9 AMOLED display for the Taimen(Pixel XL 2) with a 6-inch display size.
We’re now seeing renders appearing in cases on retailer sites too, like the Mobilefun (and many more) which shows an imagined Pixel XL 2 in a case.
The smaller phone is reported to have a 4.97-inch display. This is likely to come out as a 5-inch display meaning no great shift from the Pixel. In this case, it’s going to have full HD resolution, suggesting that this handset would be a regular 16:9 aspect, at least.
The new pixel is going to feature..
- The display on the Pixel XL 2 will have an “always on” option, so can be set to show notifications or useful information even when the phone is switched off.
- New minimal top and bottom bezels
- A massive 6-inch 1440p OLED display
- Shift in the display’s aspect ratio from 16:9 to 18:9 (like LG G6)
- Display to be more curved 3D glass(though not edge panels)
- Widened top speaker grill (Support for second external speaker)
- Significantly enlarged single rear camera(better than Pixel)
- Reduced glass back panel with lower placed fingerprint reader
- “Squeezable frame” (much like the HTC U11)

Camera and Design:
Everyone is curious about the new sequel of the stunning camera of the Pixel and Pixel XL. Though we have some info about it being better and improved camera than the Pixel series, but no one has any clue about how?
One of the models lists a 12MP rear camera with 4K video support, and a 7MP front-facing camera(which sounds like a similar setup to the 12.3MP and 8MP combo on the original Google Pixel). We have something similar to the Original Pixel design over the Pixel 2 also. From MobileFun, we’ve seen images of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL cases, showing different camera cut-outs on the two phones, so they might not both have the same camera.
Specifications and Hardware:
When it comes to power of this Pixel, we wish the new SnapDragon826 process this beast.
Yes, Sources claim that the Pixel 2 will be the first phone to use the Snapdragon 836 chipset, supposedly offering a minimum 10% performance increase, as well as improvements to its battery life. It’s a believable claim, given that the original Pixel was also the first phone to use the Snapdragon821. We might see the Snapdragon 836, said to have higher peak GPU and CPU clock speeds than the SD835. The leaks didn’t say whether both Pixel Series would get the new SD836 chip however. Sources also pointed out that the new Pixel is going get 128GB storage.
We’ve now heard from two different sources that the Pixel 2 XL might have squeezable sides, a lot like the HTC U11. These would apparently allow you to launch Google Assistant whether the screen is on or off, and could also be used for other things, such as silencing calls.
The new Pixel 2,Walleye (the smaller device), might feature dual front firing speakers and lose the 3.5mm headphone socket(As shown above). As HTC is suggested to be the build partner for the phone, this might sound very much like old HTC devices.
Till now, we don’t have any leaks about the battery capacity, but we expect at least 3500mAh offering the performance we want.
Earlier, the Pixel launched with Android 7 Nougat and a selection of exclusive features, like Google Assistant, Pixel Launcher and the Pixel camera. That unique software position is being chipped away as features appear elsewhere, but we’d expect the Pixel 2 to debut Google’s new software version with a few unique features again. Android O looks to boost a lot in the background performances, increasing its speed and security with add-on features.
Android O (named Oreo) is in stages of development. It was launched as a dev beta version, showcasing a number of new features and now it is in the final stages of beta, suggesting the finished version will be available soon. There’s rumours that the current Pixel handsets will have Android O in August, suggesting that it’s further ahead in development than in previous years.
Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president of hardware, has confirmed there will be a new Pixel this year, though he didn’t get any more specific than that.
The Pixel 2 will be apparently carry a loftier price tag than its predecessors – something we hope doesn’t turn out to be true. The old one started at $649 (£599, AU$1,079), or $769 (£719, AU$1,269) for the XL version, which was already expensive.
According to latest leaks , the search giant is currently testing a budget which can be set for Pixel handset having a best specs with a smaller price tag(Unlike Original pixel). This rumor has been refuted by a Google exec, so it’s looking unlikely as the exec refers specifically to Pixel 2, so it’s always possible that a budget Google handset will land without Original Pixel branding.
In order to increase sales, the best thing for Google would be to lower prices, as that would make its upcoming smartphones a lot more competitive on the market. As already mentioned, that likely won’t happen, which means you’ll have to dig deep into your pocket in order to get the Pixel 2 or Pixel XL 2 again.
Question for readers:
- How will you react on having “BoomSound” in a Pixel 2?
- Do you think Pixel 2 will be able to compete with other flagships on the market like the Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6 or the Huawei P10 or Apple IPhone7?
