Edit roads on the go in Google Maps

Earlier this week, Google rolled out a update with new home-screen for Google Maps users on Android in India. With this update they also added the ability to edit the roads and other places. This feature is available to users of both Android and iOS apps. It is said to replace the Map Maker service that was shut down earlier this week.

Though this feature is kept a bit aside from normal users eyes. Here’s how you can access the feature.

  1. Open the Google Maps App and navigate to the sidebar.
  2. In the side bar, select the “Send Feedback” option.
  3. In Android, users will be able to see five options where they can
    • Edit the map
    • Add a missing place
    • Report missing road
    • Send app feedback
    • Report location issues.
  4. In iOS, users will be able to see three options
    • Report a data problem
    • Add a missing place
    • Send app feedback.
  5. In Android, users can select the “Edit the map” option in order to edit the road name or name of a place. For this they have to simply tap on the particular road, followed by the “Next” option.
  6. In iOS, editing roads is possible under the “Report a data problem” option. Users can also “tap” on the wrong place or road followed by “Next” to edit it.
  7. Once the edits have been made, they are sent to Google. The edits will show up on Google Maps as soon as they will be approved.
