Echo Show – Now Alexa can show you things!

Amazon has officially unveiled its modern and fresh Echo invention, a next generation Amazon Echo – with a touchscreen! and a couple of nifty fresh features. The device was extensively leaked this week but is currently on the Amazon Store for pre-order for $229.99 which will be released on June 28, 2017.

As you can see in Amazon’s own video at the top, the primary feature is going to be hands-free video calls which is definitely changing the way we communicate in our day-to-day lives. Amazon wants to connect parents with their parents and them with their children’s children. Chill, it’s not this complicated or fragile as a smartphone. It works best when combined with the company’s own services.

Amazon is also unveiling a new feature called “Drop In,” which lets designated friends and family make a call at any time. The receiver then has a 10-second window to cancel a Drop In call or switch it to audio-only. Amazon says it imagines this feature will only be used in a small number of scenarios — like checking in on an elderly relative.

Equipped with eight microphones, beam-forming technology, and noise cancellation, Echo Show hears you from any direction–even while music is playing. Nice right?

When you want to use Echo Show, simply say the wake word, “Alexa” and Echo Show lights up and streams audio to the cloud. The Alexa Voice Service is then gripped to recognise and respond to your request instantly. If you have more than one Echo Show, Echo, or Echo Dot, Alexa responds from the Echo you’re closest to. If you want to limit your interaction with Alexa, simply turn the mic/camera button off. Learn more about voice recognition on Echo Show.
